The idea for Therapy But Louder came before the clothing line even started. It began when I was working on my dissertation in university. I wanted to explore how heavy metal subculture could actually help people. I wrote about how it can be a place of safety, how it can bring people together, and how it can create a family for those who feel out of place everywhere else.
After finishing that paper, I realized I wanted to work specifically with people in the alternative community, people who are part of the heavy metal universe. As a therapist, I connect with them because I have lived some of the same struggles. I look like them, I sound like them, and I understand the music. That connection breaks down barriers and makes therapy feel relatable instead of clinical or distant.
Too often, therapy gets pictured as someone in a cardigan with a clipboard, asking questions from across the room. But that is not what therapy has to be. It can be real. It can be raw. It can be something that speaks in your language and your culture. That is where the phrase Therapy But Louder came from.
The logo tee is a statement piece. It is not just about wearing words on a shirt. It is about claiming the truth that therapy can belong in this space too. For me, Therapy But Louder means breaking the stereotype of what help looks like and making it accessible to people in the heavy music community. When I say it is therapy but louder, I mean it in every sense of the word.
